Alice M. Mayer, 82 of Pittstown, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ. Born in Everittstown, Hunterdon County, NJ on April 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Jenniss Compton Curtis.

Alice was the wife of Fred A. Mayer; they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on January 18, 2010. She was a graduate of Frenchtown High School and worked for the Hunterdon County National Bank of Flemington NJ as an executive secretary, retiring after 40 years. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Everittstown, where for many years she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a member of the United Methodist Womens Society and was Church Treasurer for more than 50 years. She served as register of Vital Statics for Alexandria Township for more than 30 years.

In addition to her husband Fred, she is survived by her adopted daughter Pamela (Rose) Backes and husband Richard; Grandson Matthew Backes and wife Cecilia, of Phillipsburg, NJ; 2 Nieces, Helen J. Kovatch of Frenchtown, NJ, and Sylvia Warkin of Phillipsburg, NJ; 1 nephew, Earl J. Kerr of Frenchtown, NJ and many other great-nieces and great-nephews. She was pre-deceased by her half brother Harvey Kerr formally of Milford NJ.

Funeral services will be held January 2, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Everittstown United Methodist Church 415 County Rd 513. Visitation will be from 10-11 am prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Frenchtown Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ 08848.
