Arthur L. DeWire, Jr., of Lopatcong Township, NJ passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ.
Born April 5, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, Arthur lived in Bloomsbury, NJ for many years before moving to Lopatcong Township ten years ago. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was a manager at Riegel Paper Corp. in Milford, NJ and worked there from 1947 until his retirement in 1991. He was a very active member of the Bloomsbury Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. Arthur was also a charter member of the Bloomsbury Rod and Gun Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing. Arthur was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family.
Son of the late Arthur and Lillian (Gebhardt) DeWire, Sr., Arthur is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Maetta (Bittenmaster) DeWire, three sons, Arthur DeWire III, of Holland Twp., NJ, Thomas W. DeWire of Coopersburg, PA and David L. DeWire, of Superior, CO, brother Robert DeWire, of Bloomsbury, NJ, sister-in-law Shirley DeWire of Grahamsville, NY, seven grandchildren Nicholas, Sarah, Phillip, Vanessa, Michelle, Jason, & Erica, and seven great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, the late Norman and Paul DeWire, and a granddaughter, the late Heidie DeWire (2009).
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday January 29, 2012 at 1 PM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ 08848. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Frenchtown Cemetery in Frenchtown, NJ.
