Beatrice Virginia Nykamp Obituary

Beatrice Virginia Nykamp, 86 of Holland Township, NJ passed away on Thursday September 16, 2010 at Easton Hospital.

Born July 29, 1924 in Trenton, NJ, Beatrice lived in Frenchtown, NJ before moving to Holland Township in 1946. She graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1941. Beatrice retired from the Riegel Paper Corp. in Milford, NJ and was a homemaker. She was very active in her community and was the first women elected to the Holland Township Committee, the first woman Mayor of Holland Township and served on the township's Board of Adjustments for 25 years. Beatrice was also a member of the Frenchtown-Milford VFW Post 7857 Ladies Auxillary and a Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Orion Chapter 177 in Frenchtown. She enjoyed traveling, golfing and bowling. Beatrice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Daughter of the late Mahlon Frank and Alice Venable Crum, Beatrice is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Henry J. Nykamp, two daughters Judy Gill of Virginia Beach, VA and Jean Koznarek of Shaker Heights, OH, her sister Helen Cooley of Milford, NJ and five grandchildren, Kimberly, Rebecca, Laura, Anne and William. She was predeceased by her son Bruce Nykamp, who died in 1992 and two brothers Harold and Frank Crum.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 21, 2010 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland Township, NJ with the Reverend John Potter officiating.

Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private in the Holland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holland Presbyterian Church, 302 Church Rd., Milford, NJ 08848.
