Darlene Whitman Bittenmaster Obituary

Darlene Whitman Bittenmaster passed away in the Lord’s arms Wednesday, October 2, 2024 peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.


Born in Upper Black Eddy, PA, she was the daughter of the late William H. Whitman and Charlotte (Mills) Whitman. A proud graduate of Palisades High School (1953), she was a longtime employee of Riegel Paper Co. and James River Corp, serving as the Administrative Assistant to the President. Darlene was a founding member of the Bridgeton Athletic Association, working side by side with her husband Frederick R. Bittenmaster III (“Freddie B”). She was also an active member of St. John the Baptist Church, where she served as an Organist and Eucharist Minister for many years.


Darlene is survived by her three Children; Valerie Ballard (Daniel Sr.), Fred Bittenmaster IV, and William Bittenmaster (Loreen), Grandchildren: Daniel Ballard Jr. (Christy), Lauren Ballard-Pinkall (Casey), Tyler Bittenmaster, Reese Bittenmaster, and Abby Bittenmaster, Great-grandchildren: Bryce Ballard, Brooks Ballard, and Ember Bittenmaster, and Sisters: Shirley Pursell and Sharon Solomon. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Frederick R. Bittenmaster III, her brothers Charles Whitman (Carrie), Richard Whitman (Betty), and brother-in-law James Pursell.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 11 AM to 12 PM at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 4050 Durham Road, Ottsville, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 PM. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Ottsville, PA. A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held immediately after Interment at the Bridgeton Athletic Association in Upper Black Eddy, PA. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home in Milford, NJ.


Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 4050 Durham Road, Ottsville, PA 18942, the Bridgeton Athletic Association, or to a charity of one’s choice.
