David F. Armstrong, 63, of Alexandria Township, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on Friday, July 26, 2024.
Born April 22, 1961 in Paramus, NJ, David lived in Martinsville, NJ, Palo Alto, CA, and San Mateo, CA, before settling in Alexandria Township, NJ. He graduated from Bridgewater East High School in Bridgewater, NJ in 1979. David earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, as well as a Master of Science in environmental management from the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, CA. He worked as a senior environmental engineer at Roche in Palo Alto, CA. Then David worked as an environmental manager at Johnson & Johnson in Raritan, NJ, followed by working as an environmental health and safety manager at Ashland, Inc. in Parlin, NJ. He served as the outdoor coordinator for many years for the Boy Scouts Troop No. 112 in Alexandria Township, NJ. David had a great sense of adventure, which involved traveling, mountaineering, camping, and many road trips. He visited all fifty states, almost every national park, and climbed most of the major peaks in the lower forty-eight. He was an avid golfer, swimmer, and skier, who instilled his love of each sport in his children. David had a true love of the Sierra Nevada and spent his life sharing many stories of his adventures. He also took several trips internationally with his devoted partner, Jennifer, and they particularly enjoyed vacationing together on Little Corn Island in Nicaragua. Above all, David most appreciated time spent with those he loved, whether it be holiday dinners, family poker nights, or long drives with the top down in the ol’ Jeep.
Son of the late Robert James and Mary Leigh (Meredith) Armstrong, David is survived by his partner, Jennifer Dryfoos of Sugarloaf, PA, his two daughters Alexis Armstrong of Alexandria Township, NJ, and Taylor Armstrong of New York, NY, his son William Armstrong of Sneads Ferry, NC, and his two brothers Stephen Armstrong and his wife Maria “Mazie” of Tampa, FL, and William Armstrong and his wife Grayce of Farmingdale, NJ.
It was David’s greatest wish that his entire family would be able to gather for a celebration of his life. For that reason, a celebration will be held in the spring when his son, First Lieutenant William C. Armstrong of the United States Marine Corps, returns from his deployment to Japan. Details will be shared in the future and all will be welcome to attend. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scout Troop No. 112 of Alexandria Township, NJ at Alexandria First Presbyterian Church at 141 Little York Mt. Pleasant Road, Milford, NJ 08848.
