Derek B. Petri, 31, of Union Township, NJ, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ.

Derek was born on March 16, 1994 in Pattenburg, Union Township, NJ, on his family’s farm. He lived in Milford, NJ before moving back to the Petri farm when he was seventeen years old. Derek graduated from Delaware Valley Regional High School in Frenchtown, NJ and attended Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, NJ. He worked as a carpenter for Eastern Atlantic Carpenters Union Local 254, which is based in Edison, NJ. Derek also worked on his family farm for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting with his dad. Derek enjoyed motorcycles, mostly off road and dirt bikes. He was known for being handy. Derek was an animal lover and will be missed by his faithful dog, Rocky. He was a kind soul, with a big heart, and friendly to everyone.

Derek is survived by his father Sean P. Petri and his wife Sheri Petri of Asbury, NJ, his mother Holly L. (Mayes) Petri, his sister Lindsey Podpora, his four aunts Susan Petri, Kathleen Harvey, Diane Falkowski, and Judith Taylor, his uncle Charles F. Mayes, and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Robert and Rita Petri, his maternal grandparents Charles and Emma Mayes, and his aunt Marla Shupe.

Services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
