Donald Betts Obituary

Donald Edward Betts, 89, of Solebury Township, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Holland Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Holland, PA.

Born December 26, 1936, in Solebury Township, PA, Donald was a lifelong resident of the community he dearly loved. He was raised on Betts Farm, where his roots in agriculture were firmly planted, and he remained closely connected to the farming community throughout his life.

At the age of 17, Donald enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean War era. Following his military service, he devoted many years to hard work and dedication in the transportation and fuel industry. In 1981, he began working for Reit Lubricants in Warminster, PA, where he was employed for over 30 years as a CDL driver before retiring in 2003. Prior to that, he worked for Heston’s Fuel Company and Transport in Furlong, PA.

Donald was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in nature. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing—particularly for trout—and tending to his orchard. He cherished taking Sunday drives with his family to the mountains or to Lancaster, PA. At home, Donald could often be found watching old movies, with a special fondness for westerns and military films.

Donald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, and deep connection to the land and community where he spent his entire life.

Son of the late John Harold Betts, Sr. and Margaret (McKelvey) Betts, Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 64+ years, Ruth Ann (Swope) Betts, his daughter Debra “Debbie” Betts of New Hope, PA, his son David “Dave” Betts and his wife Michelle of Hatfield, PA, and his two grandchildren Ethan and Luke.  He was predeceased by his two brothers Calvin Betts and Harold Betts and his three sisters Peggy Gounaud, Norma Berto, and Doris Mills.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 9-11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ.  Funeral services will follow at 11 AM, with Pastor Fritz Frowler officiating.  Interment will follow at the Upper Tinicum Cemetery in Tinicum Township, PA.
