Dorothy Jane Dowlen, 68, of Phillipsburg, NJ, formerly of Milford, NJ passed away on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ.
Born July 1, 1942 in Milford, NJ, Dorothy was a life long resident of Milford before moving to Phillipsburg three years ago. She was a member of the first graduating class of Delaware Valley Regional High School and attended East Stroudsburg University. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Dorothy worked as a clerk at Bowkers Pharmacy in Milford, she also worked as an aide at the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, NJ. She loved sports and coached softball for many years. She was an inspiration to many young athletes at the Riegel Ridge Community Center in Holland Township, NJ. She was an avid Yankees fan. A loving mother and grandmother, Dorothy loved watching her grandchildren play sports and trips to Atlantic City. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family.
She was a long time member of the Milford Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and served as a housekeeper for the church.
Daughter of the late Warren and Myrtle Moyer Leidy, Dorothy is survived by her daughter Beth Ann Schultz and her husband Terry of Pittstown, NJ, her son Gary Warren Dowlen of Edinboro, PA, brother Barry Leidy of Easton, PA, sister MaryLou Hockman of Phillipsburg, NJ and her seven grandchildren Cady, Brooke, Haylee, Tabby, Rachel, Taylor and Kyle. She was predeceased by her brother John Leidy and her daughter-in-law Lynn Dowlen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 26, 2011 at 10 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland Township, NJ with Pastor Linda Bullock officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwich Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 7 9 PM at the funeral home.
