Fred N. Smith, 86, of Upper Black Eddy, PA has started a new life. He passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Sunrise Assisted Living in Allentown, PA. He was a wonderful husband, father, opa and great opa.

Born on June 15, 1923 in Frenchtown, NJ, he was the son of the late James and Johanna Naber Smith. He is survived by Edythe M. (Whitman) Smith, wife of 62 years, and sister Gladys Piell of Wellsboro, PA; daughter Brenda Fox and her husband Todd of Quakertown, PA; son Roger F. Smith and his partner Carol Jenkins of Bethlehem, PA; grandchildren Craig Overpeck and his wife Heidi of Blue Bell, PA; Karen Yodis and her husband Shawn of Reading, PA; Kami Smith and her partner Rob Wagner of Morrisville, PA; Megan Kosmalski and her husband Jordan of Quakertown, PA; four great grandchildren, Chase, Aidan and Brendan Overpeck and John J. Yodis.

Fred served as an airplane mechanic during WWII. He was a rural letter carrier in Upper Black Eddy, PA for 39 years and was very involved with the community. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Assn; the American Legion of Frenchtown, NJ and the First United Church of Christ in Milford, NJ. He served as the president of Bridgeton Elementary School PTA, was a charter member of the Bridgeton Athletic Assn, where he served as coach of both Midget and Little League teams. He was also a charter member of the Bridgeton Twp. Sportsmens Assn and treasurer of the Bucks County Rural Letter Carriers Assn. Fred served several years as Assistant Scoutmaster and then became the Neighborhood Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, Bucks County Council. He was active in both Milford and Red Hill Senior Groups.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 2 pm at the First United Church of Christ, 48 Church Street, Milford, NJ. Family and friends are invited to join us to celebrate the wonderful life we had with Fred. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
