Gertrude L. Schaefer, 93, of Phillipsburg, formerly of Little York, NJ passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Phillipsburg Care Center in Phillipsburg, NJ.

Born June 6, 1919 in the Bronx, NY, Gertrude lived most of her life in Little York, NJ before moving to Phillipsburg. She was a school secretary at Alexandria Township School for many years. Gertrude was a Girl Scout Leader at one time. She enjoyed traveling, camping and music; most importantly, she loved being a mother.

Daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Schultz) Brandt, Gertrude is survived by her three sons Frank Schaefer Jr. of New York, John Schaefer of Virginia and James Schaefer of Washington, NJ, her two daughters Ruth Chaplin of York, PA and Anne Romano of Nazareth, PA, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank Schaefer, her sister Amelia Hadley and her grandson Matthew Chaplin.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Upper Tinicum Cemetery in Tinicum Township, PA. Visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
