Joanne Hart Wood, 91, of Holmdel, NJ, passed away on May 18, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson Somerset in Somerville, NJ.

Joanne was born in Andover, Massachusetts on February 2, 1933. When she was in high school, she met her future husband Jack (John Charles Wood I). After attending Fay Secretarial School in Boston, Massachusetts they were married and eventually moved to Little York, New Jersey. She and Jack had three children and they all enjoyed what was once a farm and small village life. Joanne lived in the beloved farmhouse for 55 years, losing her husband Jack in 2014.

She loved her community and was the co-founder of The Holland Public Library. She was a proud volunteer with The League of Women Voters. She was founder and editor of, The PF Flyer, a newspaper at Plessey, Frenchtown where she worked as an office manager for almost 20 years.

She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and working in her flower garden. She loved the theater and other cultural events and enjoyed cooking for and entertaining friends and family. She treasured her vacations with her family on Cape Cod, MA and Wildwood, NJ, with Jack on Captiva and Sanibel Island, FL and with friends in many places including Ogunquit, ME.

Her biggest joy was her family and dear friends. She treasured and was proud of her three children, Becky, Jay, and Jeff. She also loved her 7 grandchildren dearly, and delighted in her 6 great grandchildren joyfully. She was never happier than when they were gathered around her table for a meal or a celebration.

Daughter of the late Joseph Anthony and Gladys Pearl (Douglas) Hart, Joanne is survived by her two sons John Charles Wood, III and his wife Annmarie and Jeffrey Hart Wood and his wife Nancy, and her daughter C. Rebecca “Becky” Cline and her husband Gary. Joanne’s brother Douglas Hart died earlier this year.

There will be a memorial gathering in the fall to remember, honor and celebrate Joanne. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
