Joe was born on November 23, 1936 in Sandbrook, Delaware Township, NJ, in his family’s home.  He graduated from Flemington High School in 1955.  Joe has lived in Frenchtown, NJ since 1966 with his wife Carol.  He worked for the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union Local #4 in Fairfield, NJ, for many years until his retirement in 2002.  Prior to that, he worked for the Tenneco Chemical Company in Flemington, NJ.  Joe was known to be a hard worker and instilled this trait in all his children.  His masonry skills are still on display at most hospitals, schools and municipal buildings throughout Hunterdon and Warren County.  Upon the passing of his parents, he purchased the family farm in Sandbrook in 1984 and worked the land with his kids for the next 40 years.  Joe and his sons spent many summers bailing hay, falls picking corn and winters splitting firewood. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved attending sporting events of his sons and grandchildren.  Joe was also a former member of the Frenchtown School Board and a congregant of Our Lady of Victories church in Baptistown.  Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Son of the late John and Barbara (Burkert) Herrmann, Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Carol A. (Bettinger) Herrman and his five sons Joseph of Easton, PA, Martin and his wife Katherine of Branchburg, NJ, Carl and his wife Kathleen of Stewartsville, NJ, Edward and his wife Donna of Point Pleasant, NJ, and James and his wife Brianne of Farmingdale, NJ. He is also survived by his brother Wolfgang Herrmann and his wife Susan of Wilmington, NC, his sister Mary Ann Vogt and her companion Mike of Manchester, NJ, his sister-in-law Marian Herman and her companion Jack of Flemington, his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brother John and his two sisters Caroline Lucas and Barbara Meisner.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring, at a date to be determined.  Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
