Joyce Kuchman

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Kuchman, on June 30, 2026. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and treasured friend to all who knew her.

Joyce was born to James and Martha (Sickinger) Houston on October 8, 1936 in Weehawken, New Jersey. She married her handsome sailor, Ed Kuchman, on June 28, 1957. Together they built a life rooted in family, friendship, and hard work. They raised eight children, creating a home where everyone was welcome and where family always came first. She was an active member of Clinton Township and Union Township Women's clubs. She also worked at the family grocery store, Kuch's Quality Meats, volunteered for election duties, and created beautiful floral arrangements and crafts.

For the past 50 years, Joyce and Ed made their home on the family's beloved "Funny Farm" in Pittstown, New Jersey. More than just a home, the Funny Farm became the heart of countless holidays, celebrations, and family gatherings. It was a place where laughter echoed, stories were shared, and generations created memories that will be treasured forever.

Joyce's greatest joy was her family. She was the proud mother of eight children and was blessed with 23 grandchildren, as well as 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and delighted in watching her family continue to grow.

Joyce loved gathering around the table for games, where laughter was plentiful and competition was fierce. She was a wonderful storyteller whose memories, humor, and family tales captivated listeners of all ages. She also loved traveling the country to visit friends and family, believing that there was no greater joy than spending time with the people she loved.

Joyce will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, strength, generosity, unwavering devotion to her family, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel at home. Joyce always sent cards to all family members and friends on birthdays and other special occasions. Those who knew Joyce will always remember hearing her hum little tunes as she worked or played.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents James and Martha Houston, her husband, Ed, her son Dean, her brother James Houston, and her sister Anita Nemetz. She is survived by her children; Eben Kuchman, Neva Christy (Patrick), Troy Kuchman (Penny), Jaye Kuchman (Mimi), Lori Henkel (Walter), Todd Kuchman (Laurel), and Neal Kuchman (Dawn) and her numerous grandchildren.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, Joyce's legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the traditions she created, the stories she shared, and the countless memories made on the Funny Farm. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
