Leona S. Sassaman, 86, of Erwinna (Tinicum Twp.), PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 25, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Williams Township, PA.

Born May 29, 1925 in Uhlerstown (Tinicum Twp.), Leona was a life long resident of Tinicum Township. She graduated from Frenchtown High School. She worked at the Plessey Porcelain Co. in Frenchtown, NJ for many years and served as a Union President. Prior to that, she worked at Kerrs Hatchery in Frenchtown and at Fretz Pants Factory in Pipersville, PA. Leona was an active member of the Frenchtown Baptist Church for over 50 years and was presently a member of the Baptistown Baptist Church in Kingwood Twp., NJ. She was a long time member of the Delaware Valley Volunteer Fire Co. in Erwinna and helped with many of their fundraising events. She was active with the Bucks County Democratic Committee and a member of the Board of Elections. Leona loved cooking and gardening, especially Zinnia flowers. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Daughter of the late Leonard and Lena Trouts Schiable, Leona is survived by her two sons, Darwin Bones Sassaman and his wife Patsy of Holland Township, NJ and Wayne Sassaman and his wife Dorothy of Hellertown, PA, her daughter Janice Heiser and her husband John of Williams Township, PA, her seven grandchildren David and Tangee Sassaman, Greg, Brian and John Heiser and Levi and Danielle Sassaman and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, the late Darwin M. Sassaman (1991), four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 28, 2012 at 12 noon at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland Township, NJ. Interment will follow in Upper Tinicum Cemetery in Tinicum Township, PA. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 10 12 noon prior to the service at the funeral home.
