Marie E. Smith Baker Johnson, 94, of Frenchtown, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at her home.

Born November 25, 1929 in Frenchtown, NJ to the late Paul Q. and Katherine C. (Pferd) Smith. Marie was a lifelong resident of Frenchtown. She graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1947 and was active in planning many of the class reunions. Marie graduated from Wilfred Beauty Academy in Philadelphia. She was a loving wife, homemaker, and caregiver not only to her own children, but to many others as well. She strongly believed in giving back. Marie was a Girl Scout Leader, receiving the “Thanks Badge" and served as a Hospice volunteer. She was always there to help those in need, whether it was for family, friends, or her community. She was a former president of the Frenchtown Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and served as Vice President of the Frenchtown Cemetery Association. She was a longtime and very active member of the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was in the Presbyterian Women’s Group, served as a Deacon, and also served as church sexton. Marie will always be remembered for her love of nature and flowers. She could often be found on her sun porch, surrounded by her plants, and watching for her favorite birds. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

Marie is survived by her son Kevin Baker and his wife Nancy of St. Petersburg, FL, her daughter Gail M. Holzworth of Hellertown, PA, her step-daughter Holly Kowalenko and her husband Brent, her two step-sons Timothy Johnson and his wife Sue and Steven Johnson and his wife Renee, her seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Lloyd Baker, her second husband Dale L. Johnson, her three brothers Herbert Smith, William Smith, and Paul Smith, Jr., her two granddaughters Kristin Baker and Lisa Tinsman and her son-in-law Thomas Holzworth.

A Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11 AM at the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church, 22 4th Street, Frenchtown, NJ. Interment will be held privately at the Frenchtown Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
