Mary Ann Sherman Obituary

Mary Ann B. Sherman, 86, of Milford, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township, NJ.


Born on December 25, 1939, in Milford, NJ, in a paper mill house, Mary Ann spent her childhood in Kintnersville, PA. She attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and graduated from Palisades High School. Following graduation, she returned to Milford, where she built a life centered around faith, family, and hard work.


Mary Ann worked for many years at ShopRite in Flemington, NJ, and was a proud member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Prior to that, she worked in the cafeteria at Delaware Valley Regional High School, at the 5 & 10 store in Milford, Riegel Paper Corporation, and Javes Bakery.


In 1961, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Wayne S. Sherman, at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church. Together they shared many devoted years of marriage and family life. Mary Ann cherished spending time with her family, especially gathering everyone together for large family dinners filled with laughter and love.


She had a special love for cats and was known for rescuing and caring for many throughout the years. Mary Ann also enjoyed flowers, gardening, and embroidery, and was a devoted fan of singer Engelbert Humperdinck. For many years, she was a faithful member of the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church.


Mary Ann will be remembered for her caring heart, strong work ethic, devotion to her family, and the warmth she brought to those around her.


Daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Ann (Czaplicki) Rick, Mary Ann is survived by her son John W. Sherman and his wife Susan of Holland Township, NJ, her two daughters Lisa A. Hartpence and her husband Ridge of Frenchtown, NJ and Alison M. Maziarz and her husband Keith of Frenchtown, NJ, her two brothers James Rick and John Rick, her two sisters Patricia Briel and Kathleen Fox, her cousin, who was like a brother to her, Harold Rick, and her six grandchildren Christia, Marissa, Justin, Ethan, Brooke, and Christopher.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Wayne S. Sherman in 2020, and by her brother Ernie Rick during childhood.


The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 5-7 PM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 10 AM at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ.
