Michael James Atheras Obituary

Michael James Atheras passed away on August 24, 2011 at his home in Frenchtown, He was 87.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 14, 1923 to the late James and Helen (Mallies) Atheras. Michael graduated from Murray Hill High School in New York City, and served in the Army Air Corp for 9 1/2 years during WW II, The Berlin Air Lift and Korean War. Following his discharge Sgt. Atheras moved to Leonia, NJ. He married and moved to Frenchtown in 1969. Michael was employed by Lockheed Corp. for 30 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Frenchtown Board of Education and The Shade Tree Commission and was also a Cub Scout leader for many years. Michael was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife Virginia A. (Michaels) Atheras, sons, Michael A. Atheras and his wife Patricia of Frenchtown, and Robert Koch also of Frenchtown. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Klemovec of Leonia, NJ and Pari Thurston of Ridgefield, NJ , a brother Alex and wife Faye and nephew Warren Atheras. He also leaves behind his beloved grandson Michael G. Atheras who was his pride and joy.

A Memorial Service for Michael James Atheras will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 3 PM at Johnson~Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd. Holland Township, NJ. A calling hour will be held from 2-3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
