Myra S. Godley Obituary

Myra Singley Eichlin Godley, 81, of Frenchtown passed away on May 20, 2009 in Hunterdon Medical Center after a short illness.

Born September 16, 1927 in Upper Black Eddy, Pa., Myra was the daughter of John R. and Geneva Singley Eichlin. A 1948 graduate of Frenchtown High School, she attended Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in Glenside, Pa. and was a reporter and the first sports editor of the Delaware Valley News in Frenchtown from 1949-1951, where she also became the Assistant Editor.

She was the wife of William H. Godley, Jr. of Frenchtown, who predeceased her in 1990; in later years she became his business partner in Eichlin & Son Oil and Eichlin GMC Truck Company in Frenchtown.

She was the first female Boro Clerk for the Frenchtown Council under Mayor Hugh Sinclair in 1949. Mrs. Godley was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Frenchtown Cemetary Association, a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels, a volunteer for the Flemington Food Pantry, and a member of the Projects Committee of the United Church of Christ in Milford. She was a former member of the Frenchtown Business Association and the Frenchtown Fire Company Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of the Orion Lodge Eastern Star chapter in Frenchtown.

She was also predeceased by a daughter, Joan E. Godley, in 1991. She was the loving mother of Eileen Godley Lewis of Frenchtown and Jonna Godley Scharf of Saginaw, Michigan and the beloved mother-in-law of Gary M. Lewis and Dr. Keith E. Scharf. She was also the adoring grandmother of Andrew G. Lewis of Philadelphia and William Patrick Scharf of Saginaw, Mi. and the sister of Minerva Eichlin Weatherford of Frenchtown.

Private services will be held with a memorial service at the convenience of the family at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Milford, NJ.
