Peggy Sue Knight Obituary

Peggy Sue (von Webern) Knight, 82, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 27, 2024 following an extended illness. She was the devoted wife for 52 years of her late husband, Richard C. Knight. Together, they shared their colorful lives with each other, family, and friends on their historic and beloved small farm for 46 years, affectionately referred to as “The Mountain”, on Montana Mountain, Broadway, NJ.

Second daughter of the late Francis and Virginia (Servis) von Webern, she grew up in Frenchtown, NJ following the Great Depression and during the WW II years, both of which significantly impacted her formative years. After graduating from Delaware Valley Regional High School in 1960, she followed her mother, sister, and grandmother, Grace Service, into the nursing profession. She attained her LPN license in 1963 from Caledonia Hospital, Brooklyn, NY and proceeded to care for the sick for several years at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ, where she had prior volunteered as a CNA. In later years, Peggy Sue also served her community as an EMT with the Broadway Rescue Squad, including service on 9/11/2001.

Peggy Sue was passionate about the farming lifestyle and animal husbandry, being well-known in the Warren County farming community. She found the greatest joy in shepherding her sheep and teaching the next generation of farmers through 4-H.

From childhood, she loved Jesus. As an adult she was a member of St. Anne’s RC Church in Hampton, NJ, where she used her beautiful singing voice to help lead worship. More recently, she was a faithful attendee at Faith Discovery Church, Washington, NJ, participating in various Bible Studies and volunteering in the food pantry.

Peggy Sue also loved to garden, embroider, and knit, especially for infants, to whom she had a tender affinity. She was an impeccable seamstress and gifted cook who could make the simplest meal from scratch taste wonderful. She also enjoyed martial arts, attaining her Bujinkan Ninjitsu Blackbelt.

Peggy Sue was small in stature but a beloved pillar of her family. She is survived by her daughters: Rebecca K. Dunn and her husband Michael of New Hartford, CT; Rachel C. Knight of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Sarah Knight and her husband David Crisi of Warsaw, IN. She also leaves four grandchildren: Emily (Dunn) Roes and her husband Steven of Granby, CT; Patrick Dunn of New Hartford, CT; Virginia Knight of Foxboro, MA and her fiancée Chase Watts of Rock Hill, SC; and Hannah Eve Dunn of New Hartford, CT. Her fourth generation includes Nora and Elias Roes, plus a third great-grandchild expected in January 2025. She is pre-deceased by two sisters, Barbara Quigley and Mary Mulligan. She leaves two sisters, Kathleen von Webern and her life partner Grant Dutka of Frenchtown, NJ, and Jamie Brown of Ottsville, PA.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 6-8 PM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 11 AM, at the funeral home, with Reverend Jerry Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Frenchtown Cemetery in Frenchtown, NJ.
