Richard H. Petiet Obituary

Richard H. Petiet, 85, of Holland Township, NJ, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital – Anderson Campus.


Born August 17, 1940, in Phillipsburg, NJ, Richard lived in Upper Black Eddy, PA, and Riegelsville, PA, before moving to Holland Township, NJ, in 1984. He graduated from Palisades High School in 1958, where he played both basketball and baseball.


Richard worked as a manager in shipping and receiving for Riegel Paper Corporation in Warren Glen, NJ, where he worked for 32 years. Prior to that, he was employed by the Frenchtown Porcelain Company in Frenchtown, NJ, and the Delaware Valley Quarry in Ottsville, PA. Throughout his career, Richard was known for his reliability, leadership, and dedication.


A true people person, Richard was social, well known, and loved by everyone he met. He was active in his community and was a natural storyteller with an excellent sense of humor, always teasing people in good fun and giving them nicknames. Most of all, Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else.


In his younger years, Richard enjoyed bowling in leagues at Riegel Ridge, Frenchtown Lanes, Warren Lanes, and Flea’s Club. He was a longtime member of the Bridgeton Athletic Association, where he coached baseball. He was also a former member of the Silver Creek Social Club in Springtown, PA, and enjoyed spending time socializing at the Riegelsville American Legion.  He was also member of the Citizens Hose Fire Club, the Avona Club, and The Fleas, all in the Easton, PA area.


Son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Hartpence) Petiet, Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Frances K. (Edmonds) Petiet, his two sons Jeffrey Scott Petiet of Hellertown, PA and Christopher Brian Petiet of Palmer Township, PA, his brother Gerald Petiet of Holland Township, NJ, and his two grandsons Zachary and Owen.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Richard was predeceased by his first wife Joyce Lehr and their infant son in 1965, and his brother William Petiet. 


The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 1-3 PM at Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ.  A Celebration of Richard’s Life will follow at 3 PM at the funeral home, officiated by Life Celebrant Henry C. Taylor. 


Memorial contributions may be made to the Bridgeton Athletic Association, 1340 Bridgeton Hill Road, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972.


A second celebration of Richard’s life will be held this summer at the Bridgeton Athletic Association, the date and time will be forthcoming.
