Ruth D. Schaible Obituary

Ruth D. Schaible, 97, of Milford, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Born on June 25, 1928, in Milford, Ruth was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended Milford Grammar School and graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1946. Pursuing her passion for helping others, she went on to graduate from Abington Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1949.

Ruth’s nursing career took her across the country, with early roles in Ann Arbor, MI, Fresno, CA, and Denver, CO. She eventually returned to New Jersey, where she dedicated nearly four decades of compassionate care as a Registered Nurse at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township. From 1955 to 1992, she served the hospital and community with unwavering dedication, and was instrumental in the opening of the hospital’s first coronary intensive care unit.

A devoted volunteer, she served over 2,500 hours of her time to Hunterdon Medical Center, where her warmth and kindness touched the lives of countless patients, families, and staff. Her service there was not just generous—it was a reflection of her character: quiet, steady, and selfless.

Ruth had a zest for life and a love for exploration. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid walker, and also found joy in bowling and biking. Her quiet strength, kindness, and dedication touched countless lives both professionally and personally.

A woman of strong faith, Ruth was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church of Milford, where she was deeply involved in the church community throughout her life.

Ruth will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering work ethic, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and faith.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former colleagues, and all who were blessed to know her.

Daughter of the late Howard G. Schaible, Sr. and Mary (McCollick) Schaible, Ruth is survived by her nieces and nephews Peter Schaible and his wife Marie of Milford, NJ, Nancy Simon and her husband George Stymiest of Flemington, NJ, Mary Etta Barbour of Crownsville, MD, and Tim Schaible of Bangor, PA.  She is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.  Ruth was predeceased by her four brothers Jasper Schaible, Earl Schaible, Howard Schaible, Jr., and Harry Schaible, and her two sisters Beatrice Simon and Marie Esposito.
