Shirley M. Fagan, 87, of Holland Township, NJ, formerly of Tuckerton, NJ, passed away on Sunday November 4, 2012 at home.

Born November 30, 1924 in Orange NJ, Shirley graduated from Clifford Scott High School in East Orange in 1942. A graduate of Berkeley College, she enjoyed a long career as an executive secretary and retired from Bell Labs in Chester at age 62. When not working, Shirley enjoyed knitting, reading, playing Scrabble and Mah Jong, and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed playing clarinet and singing in the chorus. An avid athlete in her youth, she loved ballroom dancing on roller skates, and continued to play tennis, golf, shuffleboard and bocce ball well into her retirement years. Shirley loved to swim and enjoyed summers at the shore. She faithfully served on the Alter Guild at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Tuckerton.

Shirley was predeceased by Wesley L. Conover, her first husband and her second husband, Robert MickH. Fagan. Shirley and Mick lived in Gladstone and Chester, NJ and retired to Mystic Shores in Tuckerton and spent their winters in Seminole, FL., where they enjoyed many happy years with friends and family. Shirley lived with her daughter, Jeanne and son in law John L. Surdi since 2008 where she enjoyed the love and caring of her family as well as the joy of her great granddaughter.

Daughter of the late Madeleine (Bonn) and Franklin Sarles, Shirley is survived by her sister, Joan M. Fagan, daughters Jeanne and husband John L. Surdi, Nancy and her husband Walter SkipFisher; granddaughters, Meredith A. and husband James T. Muller, Alicia L. and her husband Robert J. Neira, Rae Ashley and her husband Isaac Leonard; grandson, Brent Sullivan and great granddaughter, Elisabeth J. Muller.
The family wishes to honor and thank Shirley's home health care aides for their faithful loving care and support.
A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held on Saturday November 10, 2012 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Saturday 10 11 am, prior to services at the funeral home.
