Steven M. Varga, Sr., 74, of Pittstown, Alexandria Township, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Valley View Health Care Center in Frenchtown, NJ.
Born on January 25, 1936 in Szigetvar, Hungary, Steven moved to the New Brunswick, NJ area at the age of 20, where he resided for most of his life. He lived in South Amboy and Whiting prior to moving to Pittstown, NJ. Steven worked as a mechanic at Bristol Meyers Squibb in New Brunswick, NJ for 20 years before retiring in 1997. He was a former member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church and was a member of the Hungarian-American Athletic Club, both in New Brunswick, NJ. He enjoyed fishing, playing soccer and playing in soccer leagues.
Son of the late Istvan and Katalin (Dombi) Varga, Steven is survived by daughters; Judy Budroe and her husband Thomas of Pittstown, NJ, and Joyce Varga of NY: sons; Steven Varga Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, and Christopher Varga of Keyport, NJ: and four sisters; Margaret, Elizabeth, Vera and Helen. He is predeceased by his brothers Joseph Varga and Alex Varga.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 2 pm at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 3 PM at St. Catherine of Sienna R.C. Church, 2 White Bridge Road, Pittstown, NJ. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm at the funeral home prior to the services.
