Therese C. Stellmah, 93, of Emmaus, PA, formerly of Baptistown, NJ and Nazareth, PA, went peacefully home to meet the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2013.
Born September 29, 1919, she was the last surviving child of John and Anna Stellmahs 13 children. She lost her identical twin sister, Catherine (Katy) when they were 9 years old. Though this early loss in her life hurt her heart deeply, she enjoyed close ties with all her sisters and brothers, working hard on the family farm, relishing the fun of country life that included sled riding and raspberry picking in the pastures and games of baseball when the work was done.
She graduated from Frenchtown High School and worked as a legal secretary in New York City and as a secretary for many years at US Bronze in Flemington, NJ. She then took immense pleasure in her administrative work with The Childrens Home Society of New Jersey in Trenton, a job which made full use of her compassion and heart for families and children. During those years, she also cared for her mother with whom she lived until her death. She was an active member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Baptistown, NJ.
Upon her retirement, she moved to Nazareth, PA where she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, assisting in their RCIA program, helping with Vacation Bible School, and generously helping other parishioners and neighbors in need of transportation. She particularly enjoyed baking, crocheting, and taking care of her own home, especially the yard work and mowing her grass well into her early 80s.
She will be greatly missed by16 nieces, 7 nephews, 27 great-nieces, 21 great-nephews, 9 great-great-nieces, and 15 great-great-nephews from OH, CT, VA, FL, GA, MD, PA, and NJ as well as the many friends she made in Baptistown, Trenton and Nazareth.
We will remember her love of ice cream, her sense of humor that often caught us by surprise, her great kindness and thoughtfulness, her generosity, joy and her gentle spirit, and most of all, her deep and abiding love of God and faith and trust in His absolute Goodness right through the finish line of her life.
A viewing will be held on Thursday January 31, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland Township, NJ. Funeral services will begin with a viewing on Friday February 1, 2013 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church, Rt. 519, Baptistown, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
