Virginia Ida Fleming (Ginny), 84, of Hampton, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at home surrounded by family after a short illness.
Born June 7, 1925 in Palisades Park, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lucy Parker, raised by her grandparents the late George and Ida Parker of Pittstown, NJ.
She attended Flemington High School and then worked at Frenchtown Porcelain Company in Frenchtown, NJ where she met her husband, Romulus Fleming, Jr. They were married by Rev. Samuel Willis on April 15, 1944 at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant, Milford, NJ. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. After their marriage, she was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a special place in all our hearts. Her favorite activities were taking long walks on the Cape May shores collecting shells, spending time with her poodle-Gidget, raising flowers and following NASCAR racing. She was an active member of the Stanton Grange and Hampton Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary until her illness. For many years, she and her husband enjoyed enjoyed square dancing with their friends with the Danny Tebo Square Dancing club. She was an assistant custodian/cafeteria aide at the Hampton Public School where the children enjoyed her special hellos and smiles. She was a member of the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant, Milford, NJ.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Romulus Fleming, Jr.; Children: Flora I. Christensen and her husband Jon of Hardy, VA, Sandra L. Gelegonya and her husband Ernest, Sr. of Wilmington, NC, Floyd A. Fleming, Sr. and his wife Marian of Holland Township, NJ, Christine H. Wenzel of Hampton, NJ, Joseph LePoidevin and his late wife Sandra of Nazareth, PA, Alfred Franks and his wife Margie of Frenchtown, NJ; Grandchildren: Anthony Buck, Jr. of Milford, NJ, Theresa Harris of Camp LeJeune, NC, Ernest Gelegonya, Jr. of Southport, NC, Amy Fleming of PA, Floyd Fleming, Jr. of PA, Emily Fleming of Holland Township, NJ, April Abelman of Milford, NJ, Jeffrey Wenzel of Hampton, NJ, Linda Rosenblatt of PA, Susan Tesigni of PA, Joseph LePoidevin of PA, Tina Andresen of PA, Jamie Dayton of OH, John Franks of NJ and the late Daniel Franks; 14 Great-Grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Millie Kursa and brothers Bobby and Dale Parker.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church, 141 Little York-Mt. Pleasant Road, Milford, NJ. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 10, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ.
