Virginia Vail Harder died Tuesday at Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington November 13, 2012 after a long struggle with dementia. She was 86.
Born in Yonkers, New York on February 4, 1926, she was the younger daughter of Katherine and Clinton Vail. She attended The Ethical Culture School prior to graduation from Gorton High School in Yonkers in 1944. She married Ralph Albert Harder of Yonkers in Austin, Texas on July 15, 1944 prior to his deployment with the US Army in World War II. After the war they moved to Holland Township, NJ where she lived for over 60 years until her illness.
Virginia (Ginna) was an active and influential wife, mother, grandmother and member of her community. Her joy and zest for life inspired many. After raising three children, she returned to school to complete her formal education graduating from the former Trenton State College in 1972 with a BA degree in psychology. She served as President of the Milford (NJ) Women's Club, was a Cub Scout pack leader for her sons and fund raiser for Hunterdon Medical Center. She was an avid contract bridge player and enjoyed tennis and golf. She was a founding member of Oak Hill Golf Club in Milford, the first woman member of its board of directors and the first woman club champion. She loved to cook, entertain friends and family and was fortunate to be able to travel extensively throughout the world.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph, daughter Margo, sons Ralph and David, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday November 17, 2012 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland Township, NJ with Pastor Linda Bullock officiating. Interment will follow in Milford Union Cemetery.
Visitation will also be on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hunterdon Humane Society, 576 Stamets Rd., Milford, NJ 08848 or to a charity of ones choice.
