Joan S. McEwen

Joan S. McEwen

Joan S. McEwen, 97, of Easton, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Arden Court of Old Orchard in Easton, PA.

Born July 14, 1926 in Evansville, IN, Joan graduated from Westfield High School in Westfield, NJ and from William Woods College with an Associate of Arts degree. She was crowned popularity queen at William Woods College. The award is given to the girl possessing the most rounded personality. This held true throughout Joan’s life. She was a great example of how to have and maintain great friendships. Joan lived in North Plainfield, NJ for 67 years, in the house that her husband built, but her favorite place to be was at her houseboat in Cedar Creek. Along with being a homemaker, she worked many volunteer jobs in the community. Even though Joan was not the least bit religious, she stood on a very high moral ground and had a keen sense of right and wrong. Throughout her life, she enjoyed the unwavering devotion of her husband, Jack, and her extended family.

Daughter of the late James B. and Margaret (Kirby) Scudder, Joan is survived by her daughter Kathryn Arrison of Milford, NJ, her two sons David McEwen and his wife Shirley of Montana and Kenneth McEwen and his wife Sharon of Ringoes, NJ, her seven grandchildren Jennifer Arrison, Mary Vincent, Jill Spohn, Erin McEwen, Matthew McEwen, Sean McEwen, and Emma McEwen, and her six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John D. McEwen and her beloved dog Ozzie.

A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.

Condolences

To a long life well lived! She was a lovely person and will be missed by all the lives she touched, including mine. I enjoyed traveling with her, Kate and my Mom. She was curious about many things and kept things lively with her witty quips.
