William A. Kacerek

William A. Kacerek

William A. Kacerek (Mr. Bill) passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 at age 93 in Rockledge, FL. He was born in Summit, NJ, but lived most of his life in the Ironbound (Down Neck) section of Newark until moving to Florida's Space Coast in 2019. He was married to his beloved Evelyn (Nortof) for 42 years before her passing in 1999. He was the devoted and loving father of Deborah and her husband Harry Cooley, William and his wife Suzette and Mary Jo and her husband Dr. Alphonse Pecoraro; grandfather of David, Jennifer, Alexandria and Giancarlo; granddogs Daisy, Marley and Brandy; grandcats Koko, Bugsy, Layla and Rhiannon. He is survived by his brother John and a multitude of nieces and nephews. His brothers Richard and Frank and sister Eleanor pre-deceased him.

He attended Ann Street Grammar School and Essex County Vocational School, specializing in carpentry. Shortly afterwards, he began an apprenticeship in the sheet metal trade. He was a "tin knocker" and member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 25 and retired from Midway Sheet Metal Co. in 1991. He was a lifelong congregant of St. Stephan's UCC in Newark and served on the consistory, sang in the choir and was a Sunday School teacher and the unofficial church caretaker. He was also a long time Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for Troop 109 at Ann Street School in Newark.

He was an avid card player and loved casinos, especially the poker and roulette machines. He carried his ever present tool box and duct tape with him and could fix anything. He could dance a mean polka and watching him and mom dance brought joy to our hearts. He taught us about perseverance, loyalty, faith, service to others and love. He was our Energizer Bunny and kept going and going until he couldn't anymore.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11 AM at the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10-11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. A Celebration of William’s Life will follow at 11 AM.
